A continuation of one of my older posts. Here are some more of the best movies that everyone should watch in recent memory.
Baby Driver
Anything by director Edgar Wright should be experienced since he’s an incredible director working today. But this is by far his best film in my opinion. In does such an great job of weaving together the music with what’s going on in the story and has some incredible symbolism that takes a couple of viewings to catch them all. The acting is absolutely incredible and includes some of the best actors in the industry such as Jamie Foxx, John Hamm, and Ansel Elgort. As mentioned above, the music is a big part of the film whether it’s during an action sequence or in a calm setting with nothing going on. The driving scenes are visually pleasing and makes you believe that you can easily escape the police in a high speed chase through the city. The whole film has twists and turns and definitely needs all the love in the world.
Rise/Dawn/War of the Planet of the Apes
This is the series that sparked my interest in film and the whole entertainment industry. Andy Serkis is the king of CGI and it definitely shows in all three of these movies. Everything about this series is absolutely incredible in my opinion. The story is intriguing and heartbreaking, who knew we would care so much over a bunch of CGI apes but the whole world fell in love with Caesar and his clan. Only Andy Serkis can create revive a dead franchise and make it even better than before. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is arguably the weakest of the three since it is an origin story for the virus that caused the downfall of humankind and the origin of our main protagonist, Caesar. Matt Reeves came in to direct Dawn for the Plane of the Apes and made the series even better. He did something which a lot of people deem impossible, he made a sequel that was better than an already incredible film. And he did it again when he came back to direct War for the Planet of the Apes, which is unheard of. This is one of the few franchises that gets even better as the series went on. I think the series ended on a high note and there should not be a fourth film.
Anything by Phil Lord & Chris Miller
Here is another combo. Anything by directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller is absolute gold. Comedy is supposed to be the hardest genre to do but these guys are so talented and hilarious that it is no problem for them. They have made modern classics such as 21 and 22 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and The Lego Movie. They are one of the best comedic directors working right now and whenever their name’s are a part of the project, then you know its going to be a high quality film. They were recently set to direct this years Solo: A Star Wars Story, but after creative differences they decided to part ways with Disney. But their whole vibe and style is still present in the film. They leave such an incredible footprint on all the movies they work on whether they direct it or not. They both put so much care and effort to make films for the whole family while also pleasing to older audiences. Their more adult films like 21 and 22 Jump Street are some of the funniest films in recent history. Their next film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has already been crowned as the best animated feature of 2018, which is pretty incredible to say the least.
